Head Boy

JAY MARTIN   YEAR 14

"It’s hard to put into words how happy I am to be Head Boy for 2020-2021.  It is fair to say that 2020 has been a daunting and strange year so far, but I am absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to lead our school community.  Covid-19 has taught us the importance of overcoming challenges and I intend maintain a positive and upbeat outlook, show flexibility and adapt.

I believe that everyone has talents and abilities.  Ashfield Boys’ High School really helps all pupils develop their skills, qualities and attributes.  Rita Pierson talks about every child

needing a champion in her TED talk.  I see my role as Head Boy to work alongside all the staff and our Senior pupils to represent all pupils through our student council.  It is important to me that that all pupils have a voice.  For me, this is a tremendous honour and I will take pride in doing so.

I am studying Double Award Science, English Language/ Literature and Maths. These are all subjects that I’ve grown to love over the years with the help of teachers who inspire me with their love for learning. Ashfield Boys’ has moulded into the person who I am today.  I wasn’t always as confident, in fact, in Year 8 I was very socially anxious and insecure.  Team Ashfield has supported me to become much more outgoing, self-confident and I owe a debt of gratitude to everyone who has helped me.  As Head Boy I want to return the favour and help all pupils be the best they can be and live up to our HEART values."
