Key Stage 4 : UNIT 1 - Acquisition of Skills in Moving Image Production
This unit consists of two controlled assessment tasks. They aim to help develop understanding of technical processes and gain hands on experience in at least 2 of the following film language areas:

Camera Technique

Sound
-
Mise-en-Scene
-
Lighting
-
Editing
-
Animation
-
Post-Production
Students must complete 2 controlled assessment tasks under these 4 headings:

Thinking

Planning

Making

Evaluating
The teacher will mark the work and CCEA will moderate. The task will be submitted electronically as an e-portfolio.
Key Stage 4 : UNIT 2 - Planning and Making a Moving Image Product (60%)
CCEA will issue a pre-release paper, known as the Externally Set Assignment (ESA) and students will have the opportunity to produce their own moving image product in response to the set theme/stimulus. They must develop their own unique product and will complete one controlled assessment task.
The work will be based on a common theme under these four headings:

Making

Evaluating
The teacher will mark the work and CCEA will moderate. The task will be submitted electronically as an e-portfolio.
Key Stage 4 : UNIT 3 - Critical Response to Moving Image Products
CCEA will set 5 films to be studied (three feature length and two short films), these will be studied throughout Year 11 & Year 12. In the online examination, the student must:
-
demonstrate knowledge and understanding of film language, genre conventions and visual style
-
analyse and evaluate a range of moving image excerpts; and
-
draw upon the knowledge and understanding they have developed from their own study and practice.
They will complete an online exam which will last 1 Hour 30 Mins. The exam is divided into 3 sections. Each section will feature:

a brief sequence from one or more of the set films; and
-
questions that assess knowledge and understanding.
All questions must be answered. CCEA sets and marks the exam.
Key Stage 5 : AS 1 - Moving Image Arts Creative Production
Foundation Portfolio (70%)
Students must create an original and complete film or animation.
The finished film or animation must be supported by a portfolio of written, illustrated and audio-visual materials that provide evidence of the creative processes and practices undertaken to complete it.
The portfolio must be presented in the following sections:

The Critical Response is the written examination and is worth 30% of AS.
Online exam with unseen moving image clips. (30% of AS / 15% of A-Level)
This exam is conducted online in a computer suite. Students are shown unseen moving image clips and are required to answer a question relating to each of the clips. The moving image clips are in the form of film and / or animation.
Key Stage 5 : A2 1 - Moving Image Arts Creative Production & Research
Advanced Portfolio (35%)
The advanced portfolio must be presented in the following sections:

Illustrated Dissertation

Pre-Production Exercises

Pre-Production & Product Evaluation

Online exam with unseen moving image clips (15% of full A-Level).
Students must answer three questions relating to previously unseen moving image clips. The clips will be in the form of film and / or animation.
Questions 1 and 2 are compulsory. One question will relate to film and the other to animation.
In Question 3, students can choose whether to answer a film or animation related question.
This subject is concerned with the theory, craft and aesthetics of Film Making, during which pupils are given the opportunity to develop their creative and critical abilities through hand on learning.
