Key Stage 4 : BTEC Level 2 First Award in Sport

Over the course of two years, boys will complete the following units of work:

  • UNIT 1 - Fitness for Sport & Exercise (Compulsory/External Exam)

  • UNIT 2 - Practical Sports Performance (Internal Assessment)

  • UNIT 3 - Training for Personal Fitness (Internal Assessment)

  • UNIT 5 - The Sports Performer in Action (Internal Assessment)

This course is the equivalent of one GCSE.

Key Stage 5 : BTEC Level 3 National Extended in Sport

The course consists of mandatory and optional units. Units comprise either examinations (externally assessed) or coursework (internally assessed) assignments. All units are theory based but include practical elements to help develop your understanding of the content you learn in the classroom. Your sporting ability is not assessed in BTEC Sport.

It is best suited to learners who want to progress to higher education programmes in the sport and exercise science sector. Equivalent in size to one A Level. 

Four units of which two are externally assessed by an exam:

  1. Anatomy and Physiology

  2. Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being

  3. Professional Development in the Sports Industry

  4. Practical Sports Performance

Glentoran Football Club Elite Scholarship Football Programme :
BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport

Our course is best suited for those students who want to progress to further / higher education and or work in the sport and exercise science sector. Equivalent in size to three A Levels.

  11. Development and Provision of Sport and Physical Activity

  12. Investigating Business in Sport and the Active Leisure Industry

  13. Sports Performance Analysis

  14. Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport
